1 Week Old

The babies are one week old today! It is hard to believe I have been a mommy for a week already. My precious little loves have been amazing! I feel so blessed just to have two healthy children, but they have really been as close to perfect as any mommy could ask for. They are on a 4 hour schedule eating at 2, 6, and 10. During the day they have "awake" times, but they have been making it almost the entire 4 hour spans at night sound asleep. Mommy is most thankful for this! Grammie is still here, so she helps feed a baby at 2am every morning so daddy can sleep. We have no idea what we are going to do when she leaves! Auntie Amanda is coming Friday and we couldn't be happier! She has been through this all before, so we are hoping she can give us some pointers on how to make the middle of the night efficient.

Here are some pictures of all the fun we have had our first week home. Grammie bought Nap Nannies (the back and red dot loungers) that the babies love to take naps in. As you can see, Laney got all too comfy in hers the other day. She was under a blanket and when i lifted the blanket up this was her position. So funny!

First Pediatrician Visit

We had our first visit to the pediatrician today. I woke up feeling so sad that I had to take my babies to get shots. I never expected it would be so tough to watch them hurt and cry. I just hate it when they cry, even around the house, so I knew this would be tough for me. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the experience. The babies screamed for just a second and were over it in no time. I am sure this will change once they learn what to expect when we visit the doctor. The babies are almost back up to their birth weights at 6lb11oz (Laney) and 6lb10oz (Dell). The doctor was impressed with their weight gain and sleep schedule and said he didn't need to see us for a month!

We went in to the office today ready to beg and plead for formula samples, as I know it will add up quickly. The nurse was amazing and called the Enfamil rep for us to get boxes shipped to the house. She brought us a couple cans and several boxes of bottled formula and told us to ask for more every time we call or come in because she would set aside our formula every time it came in. We didn't even have to beg or plead! Thank you Dr. Mathews and Dr. Tahan! Even though we scream and cry when we see you (or pee right on you like D-Mo did!) we love you!

Dellan and Laney's Arrival

We are finally home and getting settled in after a long and exciting week. The babies made it to their scheduled C-section on Wednesday, March 10th. We were scheduled to have the surgery at 12:30, but got delayed a little due to an emergency before us. Laney was born at 1:11 and Dellan at 1:12pm. The procedure went very well and was much more comfortable than I had anticipated. Tony, who had sworn he would never, watched the babies come out and even cut their cords! He got to follow the babies into the nursery to be cleaned off while my mom stayed with me while they finished the surgery. We were in recovery for almost 2 hours before meeting the rest of the family and friends in our post partum room. We stayed for 3 days in the hospital. Our Last Night

Grammie took us out to a restaurant for our last night before the babies arrive, as it will be awhile before we go out to dinner again. This picture shows just how much I have grown in the past 2 weeks (see 36 week photos below). It is crazy! My stomach feels fake it is so big these days. The skin continues to be itchy and sore, and this is the only shirt that doesn't hurt, so I must admit I have worn it for several days in a row now. I will be glad to see it go!

Another restaurant story: We went to Dukes for Fish Tacos in Malibu the night before and had the manager and a couple waitresses come up to us to ask when we were due, etc. I think they felt sorry for my tummy because they gave us free Hula Pie! You know it's getting bad when you get Sympathy Hula Pie, but you better believe I ate it :0)

Mommy vs. Daddy Necessities

Tony and I both hit up the grocery store separately today to grab "essentials" for the hospital or house when we get home. We didn't know the other was headed to the store, but walked in at almost the same time with very different bags. Missing from Tony's picture is the bundle of Cadburry Cream Eggs he stocks up in the freezer.

38 weeks is not my friend

This morning we hit 38 weeks. Most people would be excited to be full term and just now thinking of delivery, but I feel like I have been waiting for these two to make an appearance for weeks. Overall, I had a relatively easy pregnancy with no complaints, but I think your body can only handle so much baby! Last week I started to get a little uncomfortable, but this week is getting ridiculous. My mom has been here for a few weeks and we are staying active and busy. We walk 2-3 miles a day to stay in some type of shape, and have gotten the house pretty much clean and decorated (pictures to come).

My stomach is not so pretty these days, so no picture there, but here is a not so pretty picture of what it looks like when I take my socks off. The indent is amazing and stays for a long time. I didn't get the swelling and water retention until the last two weeks, so I can't complain, but it looks so funny:


By far the worst symptom so far has been the stretching of my skin over the past 4 days. My stomach started hurting Saturday and has continued to get worse. Unfortunately stretch marks are part of the puzzle when you are carrying full term twins, but I never thought they would be painful. Shirts or anything that touches my stomach is unpleasant, so I have been walking around in Tony's boxers and a a sports bra... hot I know! We found oil yesterday made for itchy and sore skin, but I think I am going to give in and call my doctor this morning to see if he has some numbing cream or something to get me through to Wednesday. I can do anything for two days!
