One thing we've learned for sure is that "sis " likes to talk... she definitely makes herself known around here. This morning she was having a conversation with her brother. He just stares at her, already used to her antics. He is such a happy little man.

It's a Good Thing We're Cute
because Mommy is not a fan of some of our new habits. The kiddos, as adorable as they may be, do not seem quite so adorable in the middle of a breakdown (or the middle of the night). The babies were sleeping great at first, but have decided 4 hour stretches are no fun anymore. We have been looking at about 2 hour stretches the last few nights which leaves me trying every trick in the book to keep two babies quiet and somewhat happy until feeding time. This is one of those times where two really is so much more difficult. I would love to bring a baby out to the rocking chair and rock them back to sleep, but when one makes a peep the other one always stirs, so I can't leave the room with just one. Daddy had to take one twice last night so I could take the other to be settled down in the rocker. The babies have always loved 4:30am. I am not sure why, but every day since the day we came home from the hospital they have woken up at 430. Usually a pacifier will do the trick to put them back to sleep, but some nights we stay up until the 6 o'clock feeding. I still cannot complain, I have been able to do everything pretty much on my own so Daddy can try to sleep at night, and it has not been so bad. But yesterday (and we repeated this morning) both babies had a meltdown at 5:30am. The babies were not having meltdowns at all (day or night) until a couple days ago, but they have both been a wreck form 530-6 for two days now. I am still trying to figure out this multiples thing when both babies are screaming. I know how to stay calm and calm one down, but not sure how you do two once they get that worked up. But thankfully the days have been quiet, adorable, and fun! They are awake anywhere from 1-2 hours of each 4 hour stretch and generally very happy. Sleep or no sleep there is still no place I would rather be but with my little ones. Here we are the last few days:

3 Doctors in 3 Days for Dellan
Our poor little guy has had a rough week. He had a urologist appointment on Tuesday, a pediatrician check up Wednesday, and we had to head back to the pediatrician this morning! When I woke Dellan up for the 6am feeding I noticed a thick layer of yellow mucus in his right eye. I cleaned it out the best I could and put him back to sleep. When we woke up at 9:30 (yes, we all slept in this morning and it was terrific!) it was much worse and he couldn't even open his eye. I cleaned it out and was amazed at how much stuff was there just since 3 hours before. It was pretty nasty looking. I called the doc right away and we went in soon after. Tony and I were thinking it was pink eye and prepared for the whole house to get it. Luckily, it turned out to be a clogged tear duct. Apparently they are very common in newborns and can happen up to 9 months. He gets antibiotic eye drops 4 times a day for a week to prevent infection. The little man is in good spirits and doesn't seem to mind. He has just had one eye open all day! Now if this was Laney, the whole world would know something was wrong! You can kind of see his eye is a little red and swollen in this picture. The ones from this morning are just to yucky to post.

Newborn Loungers....
...are my favorite thing ever! I don't know what I would do without them. They allow me to feed both babies, sit on the couch with both babies so I don't have to bend over my incision on the floor, and the best of all.... take a shower and actually get ready. Here they are taking a lounging so mommy can shower (who would have thought I would have my kids napping in the bathroom?!?!)

Mommy Training Camp
I was thrilled to visit with my sister this weekend when she flew down to meet her niece and nephew. I decided to take advantage of her multiples expertise. Saturday was training day:
The first obstacle we tackled was feeding both babies at the same time. My mom has been living with us for a month, so she has done all of the middle of the night feedings and any daytime feedings I needed with me. She left today with my sister, so I knew this would be the most important skill to master. It was actually very simple! My sister handed down all of her baby gear, so she just had to show me the tricks she had learned. Here we are Saturday morning trying out our new feeding routine for the first time, and later in the day making sure I could do it on my own. Today my plan is to breastfeed one and bottle the other at the same time. This would eliminate the 20 minutes of pumping after feeding which would be so nice. I'm sure I'll have some funny stories to come on how this goes...
Next up was bath time! My mom had helped me give them sponge baths, but Laney woke up with a clean belly button, so she could have the real deal! She was not so thrilled about the experience to put it lightly. I don't think I've heard her scream like that since the minute she was born. Dellan has to stick to a sponge bath for a few more days.
Mommy had never tried the Newborn Loungers before. Auntie showed us they are not only good for feeding, but for "lounging"as well! Can you find us in all our Camo?
To finish off the day we went on our very first outing! I figured the numbers were in our favor 4-2, so we headed to our favorite restaurant, Kings, for dinner. The babies slept the entire time without so much as a wiggle. I am still not comfortable taking them out in public due to germs, but we had a pretty open table and kept them covered. It was nice to get out of the house for a minute, but I am very cozy and comfortable with them staying inside our new house as well!
Thank you Grammie and Auntie Amanda, We love you!

Gertrude McFuzz
Our poor little Laney has inherited my stick straight hair. As you can see every hair on her head sticks straight up! After yesterday's bath we brushed her hair once and it immediately "fluffed" to standing position. I was sure that it would be matted down after a full 24 hours of bows and hats... boy was I wrong. When I pulled her hat off this morning it went right back up! I had the exact same dark hair that stuck straight up as a baby. My moms said after a few months it started to grow in blonde and lay down. But it is fun to see pictures of me as a baby and comp are them to sweet little Laney... or Gertrude should I say.
My sister, Auntie Amanda, flew down today to visit and immediately gave Laney the nickname Gertrude McFuzz from a Dr. Seuss book. We think it fits perfectly!

Bath Time!
We can't give the babies real baths until their belly buttons come off, but Grammie helped teach me how to give them sponge baths in the meantime. Dellan seemed to really enjoy his bath and was calm as long as his limbs were covered in a blanket. He throws his arms and legs around a lot and likes to feel some type of restraint. The little princess, in true form, was not such a fan of bath time. She let out her occasional "squeaks" (a high-pitched, loud short scream) throughout the experience, but she was amazingly calm and sleepy after. Both babies are sound asleep and smell like yummy babies! Thank you Grammie. Next time I'll be on my own :/

1 Week Old
The babies are one week old today! It is hard to believe I have been a mommy for a week already. My precious little loves have been amazing! I feel so blessed just to have two healthy children, but they have really been as close to perfect as any mommy could ask for. They are on a 4 hour schedule eating at 2, 6, and 10. During the day they have "awake" times, but they have been making it almost the entire 4 hour spans at night sound asleep. Mommy is most thankful for this! Grammie is still here, so she helps feed a baby at 2am every morning so daddy can sleep. We have no idea what we are going to do when she leaves! Auntie Amanda is coming Friday and we couldn't be happier! She has been through this all before, so we are hoping she can give us some pointers on how to make the middle of the night efficient.
Here are some pictures of all the fun we have had our first week home. Grammie bought Nap Nannies (the back and red dot loungers) that the babies love to take naps in. As you can see, Laney got all too comfy in hers the other day. She was under a blanket and when i lifted the blanket up this was her position. So funny!
